Apollo Spacecraft

This is a model of the Apollo Spacecraft.

The Apollo Spacecraft was composed of three parts designed to accomplish the American Apollo program's goal of landing astronauts on the Moon by the end of the 1960s and returning them safely to Earth. The spacecraft consisted of a combined Command and Service Module and an Lunar Module.

The design was based on the lunar orbit rendezvous approach: two docked spacecraft were sent to the Moon and went into lunar orbit. While the Lunar Module separated and landed, the Command and Service Module remained in orbit. After the lunar excursion, the two craft rendezvoused and docked in lunar orbit, and the Command and Service Module returned the crew to Earth. The Command Module was the only part of the spacecraft that returned with the crew to the Earth's surface.* Wiki

I've been going back and forth on whether to attempt this, the more I look at the photos the more I want to go for it, anyone who has completed I'm curious what the final $$ amount was for parts?
    • 2 weeks, 1 day ago jbuccino Level 6
I spent just about $800US for all the parts. It was 17 different stores on Bricklink.
      • 2 weeks, 1 day ago GothamKnight Level 14 MOC Designer PRO
Thats not too bad actually for a MOC with this level of detail.  Thanks for the reply. I really want to attempt it, it makes my official LEGO lander set look like a toy lol.
        • 2 weeks, 1 day ago jbuccino Level 6
Yeah. What I did was price it it every so often on Bricklink and as soon as the total was under $800 I pulled the trigger. It took a few weeks with and got as high as $950 or so but eventually I got a good price.
          • 2 weeks, 1 day ago GothamKnight Level 14 MOC Designer PRO
good tip, I do that same trick a lot too when I'm planning a large MOC.
  • 2 weeks, 2 days ago jbuccino Level 6
I added some detail to the base plates and stand. I uploaded a photo. (I could never add to the wonderful design of the main elements but I thought I could add something visually.) Thanks again for the wonderful MOC.

This looks very good! I would never have thought of that. Thank You!

If you do not mind, I would like to take that into the instructions.
      • 6 days, 2 hours ago jbuccino Level 6
Absolutely! I feel so great that you like it and want to use it. Is there anything I can do to help?
      • 3 days, 23 hours ago jbuccino Level 6
While we are talking about cosmetic upgrades, take a look at the pictures I just uploaded. I added some tiles to the front panels (on both sides of the door) and the covered the large back panel with tiles to "hide the dots" and give your model a more finished look.
        • 2 days, 2 hours ago FreakCube Level 8 Designed this MOC
Both look very good. Thank you very much.
If you have any further suggestions for improvement, please feel free to write me.
I have already received some feedback, such as an improvement in the transmission. Unfortunately I haven't had time to implement the changes. Soon I should have some time to build Lego again. Then I will also implement your suggestions.
          • 2 days, 2 hours ago jbuccino Level 6
You are very welcome. I look forward to the LEM leg transmission changes as it seems to be a bit fragile. The only other change I made was to replace the four 1x2 white plates with 1 stud at the very top of the command module with regular 1x2 plates to provide a better connection to the nose cone section.
        • 2 days, 2 hours ago jbuccino Level 6
I would also be happy to test any modifications you are thinking of. I have a good selection of spare parts and would be happy to re-assemble my model and let you know how it goes.

Great work, just bought (instructions from you, stones from Aliexpress). I hope that many will get the instructions from you, even if the Chinese send them cheekily as pirated copies.
Would be nice if something in this fantastic quality follows :)

I am building it and I have to say, Your use of Brackets is kind of mind-blowing!
But, of course, I have a Question. Instructions 1.4 on Page 996. There is in the upper left Area one golden 1x2 Tile hovering above the Plate. It seems like there is one 1x4 Plate in black missing. Is that correct?
    • 4 months, 1 week ago FreakCube Level 8 Designed this MOC
Yes! This is correct. There should be a black 1 x 4 plate. Sorry for the mistake.

In a construction manual of almost 1500 pages, over 1800 construction steps and over 7000 parts, it may be that I have not noticed all the bugs. That's why I'm happy when I'm made aware of the bugs. If you find any other bugs, feel free to contact me.
      • 4 months, 1 week ago Universalspezifikum Level 7
Thank You for the fast Help. I would contact and bother You but this is the only Thing, I stumbled upon. I'm having a blast building this Work of Art. It is a great build. Challenging sometimes - The Seats in the Command Module - but never boring.
In fact i do think that the Instructions are too cheap. Especially considering the Assholes from Ali Express!
  • 4 months, 1 week ago ekubart Level 12
Great to see a complete model of the Apollo missions, especially the rover add on simply great.
Thanks for creating this , it’s on my list of builds to make.

Thank you so much for the rapid 1.4 update with the decal information.
I have packages arriving over the next few weeks with the parts I need to build this.  I have never been as excited to do a build as I have for this one.  Thank you again for all your hard work in developing and publishing the Apollo models.  I look forward to see if you do any other MOC!
    • 4 months, 3 weeks ago FreakCube Level 8 Designed this MOC
I wish you much fun to assemble the MOC. I already have some ideas for further models. I will also try to build a smaller MOC.
  • 4 months, 3 weeks ago Polyprojects Level 10 MOC Designer
I love the model . Lot's of details because of the size of course , so this model looks realistic as can be.
The whole thing instructions  and parts is available on Aliexpress for 265 dollar shipping included. The guys just stole your design and make this a set with fake lego parts that are being produced in the factory where Lepin bought their bricks. Copied the image and tekst and data you have given ...
In a way it's sad that Lego does not produce such great models and sell them at a normal price, but must we be happy when the Chinese take over and taking all the credits...
    • 4 months, 3 weeks ago FreakCube Level 8 Designed this MOC
      Thank you!

Yes, I have already seen that. Thanks for the hint.
Unfortunately, my MOC is also offered on other sites. It makes me sad and angry to see that.
LEGO gives too many restrictions on "IDEAS". Otherwise I would have uploaded my MOC there. In my opinion, they implement too few ideas there.
      • 4 months, 3 weeks ago Polyprojects Level 10 MOC Designer
on other sites yes, but the source of it is all the same.
Lego has creativ amnesia. The designs have parts restrictions and by doing that you 'll Always get poor sets compared to what some AFOLs make. The last example is the new star destroyer ( allready on sale on aliexpress, I thought Lepin was over and dead). What is Lego trying to proof...Just take the Rascolnikov version and put it on the shelves. At least this is a exciting set, but no they produce something as boring as the 2002 version. Nice on display, but boring to build.
Anyhow I wish you all the best.

Awesome build, thank you very much for sharing this fantastic MOC!
i would be very interested in buiding the Comand and Service Module for this time been; could you be so kind to provide instructions for that only?
    Best Regards
    • 5 months, 1 week ago FreakCube Level 8 Designed this MOC
I will soon split the manual into two parts. The Lunar Module and the Command and Service Module.
I think that I'm done by the end of september.
    • 4 months, 3 weeks ago FreakCube Level 8 Designed this MOC
The building instructions for the Command and Service Module are online.

Is it comptaible with the original Lego Lunar Lander?
    • 5 months, 1 week ago FreakCube Level 8 Designed this MOC
This model is not compatible with the Original Lunar Lander.
      It Is much bigger.

  • 5 months, 2 weeks ago LelleB Level 8
Finally. All parts are here.. :D
  • 5 months, 3 weeks ago tvroenho Level 8
Very nice model! Have you considered generating partslists and instructions only for the Lunar Module?
I might be interested in building that one (first) and are curious of how many parts it consists!
  • 6 months, 1 week ago Universalspezifikum Level 7
Question: Do your Changes (Changelog...) affect the original Partslist? Cause i ordered according to this. Thanks in advance.
    • 6 months, 1 week ago FreakCube Level 8 Designed this MOC
A few parts were replaced by others. An exact overview can be found in the changelog in the building instructions 1.3 or in the pictures on Bricksafe. There you will find the new parts on the left side and the old parts on the right side (red).
      • 6 months, 1 week ago Universalspezifikum Level 7
I imagine answering to all the stupid Questions must take a lot of your time. I really appreciate that!
  • 6 months, 1 week ago c5gebj2 Level 3
